My name is Leonidas Trakolis and I was born in Thessaloniki. After a year in the Department
of Biology of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki I decided to study medicine. I studied in
Comenius University of Bratislava in Slovakia where I graduated with grade “Excellent” (1,36)
while I received my first degree (MUDr) for my dissertation in the Department of
Anaesthesiology and Intensive Care of St. Elizabeth Cancer Institute in Bratislava about
“Principles of hemodynamic monitoring with special reference to semi-invasive methods”.

After graduation I began with my residency in Neurosurgery in Germany where I received a
high-quality education. I got my specialization degree from the University Clinic of Tübingen
receiving the best possible training next to the world-renowned neurosurgeon Professor Dr
med Marcos Soares Tatagiba. Through his guidance I completed my second dissertation with
Thema “Persistent tinnitus after vestibular schwannoma resection: clinical and imaging
indications of neuroplasticity, this time in German language and received my second title (Dr
med) with grade “Excellent – 1 Magna cum laude”. For 3 years I was responsible for the
Hydrocephalus team gaining a lot of experience in all pathologies and on all common valves.
My collaboration in scientific basis with the team in Tübingen continues until today.

My surgical evolution continued in Marienhospital of Lünen, academic hospital of the
University of Münster, where I worked as a Consultant for Neurosurgery. There, I had the
chance to get the necessary routine in the common neurosurgical operations and expand my
surgical skills in spine surgery. In addition, I received the European Spinal Cord Certificate of
Eurospine. I organized and guided the interdisciplinary neurovascular board and I was
responsible for the neurosurgical patients of the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).

After 17 years of education abroad I decided to start my personal praxis in the city of Kavala.
In cooperation with the best private Hospitals in Greece every patient, from every corner of
Greece and abroad can receive a high qualified diagnosis and therapy. I cover the whole
spectrum of neurosurgery using the most modern (surgical and conservative) methods in
order to offer a service of highest quality.

At the same time, I publish a multitude of papers in world-renowned medical journals, a list
of which can be found in the section: Publications. In addition, I offer reviewer services in
various renowned scientific journals, while I am also a Guest Editor in the special issue of the
Journal of Clinical Medicine (IF 3.0) on Quality of Life in Patients with Hydrocephalus.
